Actress and filmmaker Georgina Lightning dies aged 63 following an incident at a rodeo event in Canada. Multiple outlets report that she is pronounced dead at the scene after being treated by paramedics, with police responding to the incident.
Canadian sources cited by outlets say she was filming for a documentary and was present at an Indian relay event at the Enoch Rodeo Grounds when a horse that veered off course reportedly struck her. Alberta RCMP is reported as having responded at 6.40pm, and an investigation is launched by the province’s workplace-safety regulator. The Enoch Cree First Nation also confirms her death, attributing it to an incident at that evening’s event.
Outlet coverage focuses on both the circumstances and her career. Several outlets describe her as known in the UK for her role in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, while others add detail on her work as a director and screenwriter, including the film Older Than America. Co-star Tim Healy and others publicly pay tribute, describing her as a “lovely lady” and a joy to work with.
