Apple has unveiled AirPods 5, its entry-level wireless earbuds, with upgraded active noise cancellation and added software and audio features. Multiple outlets report that Apple positions the new model as improving on AirPods 4, including enhanced noise reduction and an updated approach to mixing noise cancellation with ambient sound.

Apple says AirPods 5 reduce up to 50% more external noise than AirPods 4 when active noise cancellation is enabled, with a redesigned acoustic architecture and updated Adaptive EQ aimed at improving sound across a wider range of ear shapes. Several outlets also note updates to Transparency mode, plus Adaptive Audio, which automatically blends active noise cancellation and Transparency. Conversation Awareness can lower playback volume when the wearer speaks.

Across coverage, there is also consistent focus on new Apple Intelligence-linked capabilities. Outlets say the earbuds support hands-free access to Siri AI features and Live Translation when paired with a compatible iPhone. A higher-priced version with a wireless charging case adds stem-based swipe controls on the earbuds and improved battery life, with Apple claiming up to five hours of listening with noise cancellation on and up to 22 hours with the case. Pricing is reported at $129 for the standard model and $149 for the wireless charging case version, with preorders and availability beginning in September.
