A neonatal/children’s nurse, Amanda Reid, is struck off by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) after findings that she fakes terminal leukaemia to deceive her family and others. Multiple outlets report that she shaved her head daily and, in at least one account, used physical signs such as a cannula to support the deception.
The NMC committee finds that Reid knew she was not dying and misled family members, children, and medical professionals, who were told she was “at the point of death.” The accounts also describe that she obtained or claimed a large pension sum, with figures reported around £180,000 to £185,000. One outlet says part of the money was used for a trip to Dubai, while other reports focus on the deception and its impact on those around her.
