Meta’s AI assistant “Muse” is reported to compile information not only about users who interact with it, but also about people in their lives. According to Gizmodo, the system collects data to create profiles of individuals connected to a user, even when those individuals have not directly used Muse.
TIME reports that internal instructions reviewed by the outlet describe Muse mapping relationships between users and their contacts, including those who do not use the product. TIME also says the assistant can share anonymized insights across its system.
Both outlets characterize the activity as building dossiers or profiles that extend beyond a single user. While Gizmodo focuses on the idea of collecting information on “everyone” in a person’s life, TIME provides more detail about how internal guidance describes relationship mapping and the handling of anonymized information within Meta’s systems. The reporting raises questions about what data Muse uses, how profiles of non-users are created, and how those insights are distributed internally.
