The KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban is postponing an urgent application over allegations tied to a “water tanker mafia.” eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba, city manager Musa Mbhele, and the city’s executive director for water and sanitation, Ednick Msweli, seek relief against the Democratic Alliance (DA) and DA eThekwini mayoral candidate Haniff Hoosen. The hearing does not proceed as scheduled.

According to the outlets, the postponement follows procedural failures in the exchange of court documents. News reports that the court does not receive the DA’s replying affidavit, preventing the matter from being heard. IOL adds that the DA says it will continue with its claim despite the postponement, while Xaba characterises the DA’s earlier public messaging—via a billboard linking city leaders to a “water tanker mafia”—as defamatory. The matter is therefore left pending further court action after the delayed filings.
