Rory McIlroy responds to comments by fellow PGA Tour player Kevin Kisner after Kisner suggested McIlroy’s participation in the inaugural DP World India Championship is driven mainly by a large appearance fee. Multiple outlets report that Kisner also used a dismissive remark about McIlroy’s stated goal of helping grow golf internationally.
McIlroy’s replies frame the situation differently. He argues that financial incentives and a genuine interest in expanding golf’s global reach can both be true. The tournament, held at Delhi Golf Club, features a high-profile international field and is tied to the Race to Dubai points race, adding context to why top players attend.
While Kisner criticizes McIlroy’s “money grab” motivations and portrays his altruism as a “script,” McIlroy emphasizes broader development of the sport. Despite the off-course dispute, reporting also notes McIlroy’s on-course result in New Delhi, where he finishes tied 42nd.
