A military service member is hurt after falling while rappelling from the rafters at San Antonio’s Alamodome during pregame activities before UTSA’s football game against Navy. The person is transported to a local hospital after landing on the playing surface.
The incident happens about 15 minutes before kickoff during UTSA’s annual “Salute to Armed Forces and Veterans” ceremony, in which four officers from Detachment 2 of the 6th Combat Training Squadron, based at Joint Base San Antonio–Camp Bullis, are scheduled to rappel onto the field. Outlets report the officer appears to lose control during the descent, and medical personnel respond on site.
UTSA says it is saddened by the incident and is activating wellbeing services for those who may be affected. The fall disrupts the pregame proceedings and delays kickoff by roughly 10 minutes, but the UTSA–Navy game proceeds after the brief delay. Details about the officer’s identity and condition are initially not publicly disclosed.
