Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to visit Pakistan for three days from October 20 to 22, beginning a state visit that Pakistan’s Foreign Office says takes place at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The trip will include meetings with Pakistan’s president and prime minister, and events alongside a business forum.

Muizzu will travel with First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a senior delegation of cabinet ministers and officials. During the visit, he is expected to meet President Asif Ali Zardari, who will host a state banquet, and hold restricted and delegation-level talks with Shehbaz Sharif. The discussions cover the full range of bilateral relations, with both sides aiming to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, health, education, tourism, agriculture, defence, maritime security, climate change and people-to-people exchanges. The Foreign Office also says a Pakistan-Maldives Business Forum will be held to promote interaction between business communities.

Outlets also note that several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the trip. They frame the visit as the first Maldivian presidential trip to Pakistan in 11 years and timed with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations established in 1966.
