Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), leads a group of Rivers House of Assembly members and all 23 local government chairmen to a new meeting with Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Port Harcourt. The talks take place at Fubara’s private residence and are described by multiple outlets as part of an ongoing reconciliation effort between the governor and lawmakers from different political camps.
The meeting follows earlier engagements at the same venue involving leaders loyal to both Wike and Fubara. Among those accompanying Wike are Martin Amaewhule, speaker of the Rivers assembly, and Kingsley Chinda, an APC governorship candidate in the state. Sources link the renewed discussions to the aftermath of a prolonged political feud that began soon after Fubara took office in 2023, escalated into impeachment moves, and culminated in a six-month emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025, which suspended the governor, his deputy, and state lawmakers.
Outlets also note that Wike has said the feud has ended, that a reconciliation committee chaired by Magnus Abe was set up, and that Fubara has declared support for the Rainbow Coalition while endorsing Chinda as his preferred successor for the 2027 governorship election.
