San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams says he forgot he played for the Washington Commanders, ahead of the teams’ Monday night matchup. Williams, nearing the end of his 16-year NFL career, made the remark when discussing his former team.
The outlets frame the admission as surprising but largely focus on the timing—coming right before Williams faces Washington again. With Williams no longer in Washington and Washington having been his earlier stop in the league, the comments highlight how his long career spanning multiple seasons and teams can make earlier chapters feel distant. Neither report indicates any change to his on-field preparation or team situation; they primarily report the quote and its context around the reunion game.
