Indian para shooters Mona Agarwal and Avani Lekhara deliver a 1-2 finish in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 final at the Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya. Agarwal wins gold with a score of 250.0, setting an Asian Para Games record, while Lekhara takes silver with 249.6, finishing just 0.4 points behind. The result gives India its first medals of the competition.

Several outlets note that Agarwal’s winning performance follows a strong showing earlier in the event. She tops the qualification round with 629.1, establishing an Asian Para Games qualification record and narrowly missing the world record of 629.4, which is jointly held by Avani Lekhara and Veronika Vadovicova of Slovakia. Lekhara is second in qualification with 626.4.

PM Narendra Modi also issues congratulations through an official social media post, praising both athletes for their performances. Reports add that the men’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 final does not yield a medal for India, with Mahavir Swaroop Unhalkar finishing fourth and debutant Rakesh Nidagundi placing seventh.
