SK hynix says it is partnering with the South Korean government and major banks to provide 2 trillion won (about $1.5 billion) in loan guarantees for local semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment suppliers. The company and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources sign an agreement to launch the program at SK hynix’s semiconductor cluster promotion center in Yongin, south of Seoul.
Under the plan, SK hynix and four major banks contribute a total of 100 billion won to support the initiative, while K-SURE, the state-run Korea Trade Insurance Corp., provides guarantees totaling up to 2 trillion won. Suppliers recommended by SK hynix receive higher loan limits, interest rate reductions of up to 2.5 percentage points, and longer guarantee periods extended from one to three years.
Outlets describe the move as part of wider efforts to strengthen Korea’s semiconductor export supply chains by improving financing access for smaller firms that supply major manufacturers. The program focuses specifically on suppliers tied to SK hynix and aims to reduce financing friction for the upstream components needed for chip production.
