A professor at Symbiosis Law School’s Nagpur campus is placed on leave after allegations that he sent “inappropriate” messages to a former or current student, which also sparked a religious row. Reports say a complaint is raised after the student’s father shows messages allegedly sent by the professor to the relevant organisations.

Outlet reports describe the messages as being inappropriate and, according to claims relayed by organisations, linked to urging the student to adopt Islam and read the Quran. The issue triggers protests by groups including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and the Vishva Hindu Parishad, which demand the professor’s removal and strict action.

According to coverage, the university administration takes note and sets up an inquiry or committee to examine the matter. Police are also involved in facilitating discussions between protestors and the administration, and reports indicate that as of the time of writing a first information report had not been registered. The professor remains on leave pending the investigation.
