India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) rejects anti-India references in resolutions adopted at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Baghdad. In a statement on Monday, the MEA describes the references as “malicious, biased and false,” and says they amount to politically motivated propaganda.
Across the reports, India also argues that the OIC has no authority to comment on what it calls India’s internal matters, asserting that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of the country. The MEA further ties the criticism to Pakistan, accusing it of orchestrating the OIC references and using the forum to advance a “bigoted agenda.” It contrasts developments in J&K after the abrogation of Article 370 with what it alleges is violence and repression in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including claims about civilian casualties and a media blackout.
In addition, the MEA dismisses other OIC resolution language, including references related to Islamophobia. India says such statements attempt to divert attention from alleged persecution of minorities and governance or political issues, and urges reforms within the OIC over its credibility and integrity.
