The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Kaduna raises alarm over a severe shortage of doctors in the state, saying only about 1,600 licensed medical practitioners are currently available, down from roughly 2,000. The NMA says the reduced number of qualified doctors is increasing pressure on healthcare services.

NMA Kaduna chair Dr. Aisha Mustapha links the shortfall to factors including poor pay and insecurity. According to the association, insecurity is contributing to difficulties in retaining and attracting medical staff, while the overall decline in licensed doctors further strains existing facilities. Both outlets report the warning as an urgent call for attention to workforce gaps in Kaduna’s healthcare system.
