Biotech firm Colossal Biosciences says it will repatriate a rare moa egg to Aotearoa New Zealand. The company acquired one of the world’s remaining moa eggs and plans to entrust it to New Zealand-based partners associated with a moa de-extinction effort.

Multiple outlets report that the egg, which has been held in a private collection in the United States for decades, is being returned after about 60 years. The New Zealand Herald says Colossal will gift the egg to Ngāi Tahu, an iwi in the country. PR Newswire frames the return as part of the company’s work to support responsible stewardship and cultural connection, while Bloomberg highlights the move in the context of Colossal’s broader de-extinction and technology-focused biotech program.
