Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend Dussehra celebrations in east Delhi, including the Ravana Dahan ceremony, prompting a major security deployment and citywide traffic curbs. Police say a three-layer security cordon will be set up at the Utsav Ground in IP Extension, with around 2,500 personnel from the Delhi Police and central armed forces, and an expected crowd of roughly 10,000.
Security arrangements include searches at entry gates and extensive anti-sabotage checks, with the Special Protection Group handling the innermost layer, the Prime Minister’s security wing forming the middle layer, and local police running the outer layer. Surveillance and security measures involve CCTV, drones, sniffer dogs, quick response teams, and metal detectors at entry points. Officials also say high-rise areas along the motorcade route have been scanned and secured.
Separately, the Delhi Traffic Police issues an advisory warning that diversions and restrictions will run from about 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on roads including key stretches in East Delhi near the National Highway 24 and around Patparganj, Ghazipur, and Vikas Marg. The advisory urges commuters to use alternate routes, plan ahead, and—where possible—use the metro as congestion is expected near Ramlila grounds and effigy-burning sites.
