The Federal Government says it is pursuing a 10-year plan to expand Nigeria’s capital market to about N750 trillion by 2036, with the listing of major state-owned firms on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX). Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele and other officials link the effort to a broader goal of building a $1 trillion economy over the coming years.
At the National Capital Market Conference 2026, Oyedele also urged the government to accelerate plans to list selected government assets to deepen the market and broaden public ownership. He argues that mobilising domestic savings and attracting foreign investment would help reach a longer-term aim of a $1 trillion capital market.
Across reports, outlets cite Oyedele’s call for NNPC and Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) to be listed as flagship candidates. One outlet adds that the proposed scale of NNPC’s potential market value is often compared with Saudi Aramco, illustrating the expectations behind the listings. Other coverage frames the announcements as part of government targets being unveiled alongside capital market initiatives.
