The Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA) opens a solo exhibition in Seoul featuring American media artist Lynn Hershman Leeson, described by outlets as her first solo show in Asia. The exhibition, titled “Lynn Hershman Leeson: First Person Plural,” begins Wednesday and presents about 200 works covering roughly six decades. The display includes paintings, photography, sculpture, and media installations.

Reporting highlights Leeson’s long-running focus on new and emerging technologies in art, including video, the internet, artificial intelligence (AI), and references to genetic engineering. Several sources point to signature projects: her multi-year 1970s performance in which she lived as an alter ego, Roberta Breitmore; and the interactive 1980s work “Lorna,” which lets visitors influence the narrative using a remote control. SeMA organizes the exhibition into multiple sections exploring themes such as identity formation, connections through social relationships and networks, and how biological change is addressed through artistic practice.
