HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co. (HD KSOE) says it has won an order worth about 1.9 trillion won (around $1.44 billion) from South Korean shipping company HMM for eight 13,000-TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships.

The vessels are designed to run on both LNG and conventional marine fuels. HD KSOE says two ships will be built at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ shipyard in Ulsan, and the other six at HD Hyundai Samho’s shipyard in Yeongam. Deliveries are scheduled to take place in stages, with completion expected by 2029.

Both outlets report the same core commercial details, including the ship class and that HD KSOE, part of the HD Hyundai group, is expanding its order backlog. Korea Times adds that this contract brings HD KSOE’s orders to about $20.19 billion for 182 vessels so far in the year, reaching 86.6% of its annual order target, while Yonhap presents the agreement with the same figures and timeline in its dateline coverage.
