BlackRock is seeking to expand its U.S. Bitcoin exchange-traded fund lineup, filing with the SEC to launch another Bitcoin product that uses options strategies. Multiple outlets describe the planned fund as providing “buffer” or downside protection while still linking exposure to BlackRock’s existing spot Bitcoin ETF, iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT).
In the days around the filing, ETF flow data highlighted BlackRock’s momentum in the broader Bitcoin ETF market. CoinDesk and other outlets report that U.S. Bitcoin ETFs recorded their largest single-day inflows in about a month, driven primarily by IBIT’s reported inflow of roughly $665 million. That large figure came alongside withdrawals from some competitors, including Fidelity’s FBTC and Grayscale’s GBTC, which posted net outflows, reducing their contributions to overall daily totals.
While outlets broadly agree on the filing and the market flow impact, they differ on emphasis: some focus on the options-based structure and what investors trade off between downside limits and upside participation, while others focus on ETF flow rankings and the scale of IBIT inflows.
