ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent have placed orders worth more than $35 billion for Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 workstation GPUs, Reuters reports, citing people familiar with the matter. The reported purchases total more than 3 million units, with the three companies seeking roughly three million cards collectively at about $11,400 each.

The orders come as U.S. export restrictions limit access to Nvidia’s most advanced data-centre AI chips in China. Sources say Nvidia warns it cannot guarantee fulfillment because Chinese demand exceeds planned production. One cited expectation is that customers may receive only a small fraction of requested quantities, alongside uncertainty about global production levels through 2027.

Outlets broadly agree on the main points: the buyers, the GPU model, the scale of the requested orders, and Nvidia’s caveat about supply. Differences in framing center on emphasis—some highlight the “banned-from-top-chips” context, while others focus more on Nvidia’s ability to deliver and supply constraints. The Next Web adds that it cannot independently verify the Reuters report, while other outlets primarily relay the Reuters-reported details.
