Schaeffler India CEO and managing director Harsha Kadam is taken into police custody in Pune as authorities expand an investigation into an accident at one of the company’s factories that killed two workers in June. Police detain Kadam following an incident on June 9 at the Talegaon MIDC plant, where two workers employed by a service provider died after carbon dioxide (CO2) was suddenly discharged during a scheduled cylinder replacement.

According to a regulatory filing cited by multiple outlets, police move the case beyond earlier officials and others connected to the incident to include Kadam because he is considered the “occupier” of the factory premises under applicable law. Free Press Journal and the filings it references also say a case had been registered against six officials and others, and that Schaeffler India and its personnel have been cooperating with the authorities. The company says it continues to cooperate and is assessing legal developments with advisers.

Across coverage, outlets largely agree on the custody action, the June 9 CO2 discharge incident, and the reason the investigation is expanded to the CEO. Differences are mainly in how much background each outlet provides, with some offering only a brief framing headline summary.
