Perplexity’s Computer feature is adding a new “local-first” option for Mac users, allowing tasks to run entirely on-device, including offline use. AppleInsider reports that a fully local mode launched October 20 for Perplexity Pro, Max, and Enterprise subscribers, building on earlier launches that introduced native Mac automation and hybrid processing.

In this mode, users can choose to keep an entire task on their Mac or authorize cloud processing when additional capabilities are needed, based on meeting minimum requirements. Engadget emphasizes the practical system threshold by noting that a Mac with at least 36GB of RAM can run Perplexity AI workflows locally. 9to5Mac similarly highlights the expanded capability for the Mac app to operate fully on the device without an internet connection, positioning it as an even more standalone experience.
