Indian newsprint manufacturers seek Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention after coal supply disruptions affect their production, according to industry representatives. The Indian Newsprint Manufacturers’ Association (INMA) submits a representation requesting timely coal dispatches under existing fuel supply arrangements with Coal India Limited subsidiaries.

INMA says the shortages are forcing mills to buy coal at higher prices from the open market. The association also argues that the power sector receives the majority of coal supplies, leaving manufacturing short of fuel. It urges the government to enforce an allocation ratio—described as 75:25 in one account—to ensure coal reaches manufacturing instead of being diverted primarily to electricity generation. The outlets report that INMA frames the issue as one of implementing existing allocation guidance to restore reliable coal flows for the paper and newsprint sector.
