South Korea’s exports more than double during the first 20 days of October, reaching $61.6 billion, as semiconductor shipments drive growth, according to customs data cited by multiple outlets. The exports figure is described as a record for the Oct. 1–20 period, with the daily average for the business days also at the highest level for the first 20 days of any month.

The reports attribute the surge largely to chips, with chip exports rising sharply to $27.5 billion and accounting for a growing share of total exports. Petroleum product exports, automobiles, and steel products also increase year on year. Imports rise to $47.1 billion, and the trade balance is reported as a surplus of $14.5 billion.

While all sources agree on the overall export doubling, there is variation in how the story is framed and how growth rates are expressed. One outlet highlights “105%” export growth and “record chip sales,” while others focus on the record level of exports and the specific breakdown by sector and trade balance figures. The common thread across coverage is the outsized contribution from semiconductors to the monthly early-period performance.
