Vehicle registrations in India fall sharply during Navratri, according to provisional figures compiled by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). Passenger vehicle registrations drop about 22% to roughly 1.83 lakh units over Oct 11–20, while total vehicle registrations decline around 6.5% year-on-year to about 11.23 lakh units.

Several outlets attribute the decline largely to comparison effects. They say last year’s Navratri overlapped with the GST 2.0 rollout, when sales had been disrupted, and this year also continues from a period after Shradh. While carmakers report relatively steady deliveries, some point to supply constraints. Maruti Suzuki, for example, says deliveries are close to last year but more vehicles could have been sold with better availability, with pending bookings rising after Dussehra.

At the same time, EV performance is reported as stronger than non-EV sales. NDTV and Business Line say electric vehicle retail sales rise in percentage terms during the festive period, and one report specifically notes electric passenger-car registrations increasing and expanding EV market share.
