Hong Kong’s government and Beijing both condemn Britain’s latest “six-monthly report” on Hong Kong, calling its remarks misleading, untruthful, and irresponsible. In response to the UK’s monitoring report, Hong Kong authorities reject what they describe as attempts to make misleading comments about the city’s affairs, with particular focus on national security law issues.

Hong Kong Free Press and the Hong Kong government framing emphasise the UK report’s claims about the “expanding scope and application” of national security laws. The South China Morning Post adds a Beijing angle, highlighting concern expressed in the UK report alongside references to the continued imprisonment of former media boss Jimmy Lai Chee-ying and the report’s assessment that Hong Kong’s openness has further diminished.
