Saturday Night Live UK uses its latest cold open to spoof Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s recent appearance on “Celebrity Gogglebox.” In the sketch, George Fouracres plays Burnham, alongside Emma Sidi as Liverpool Mayor Steven Rotheram, as the pair discusses television favorites tied to the week’s programming.
Both outlets say the cold open also riff on other well-known UK TV formats, including parodies of “The Graham Norton Show” and “The Celebrity Traitors,” and includes references to “Great British Bake Off.” Variety frames the sketch as a rundown of the week in TV built around Burnham’s “Celebrity Gogglebox” appearance, while Deadline similarly spotlights how the sketch uses familiar TV references and characters to poke fun at Burnham and Rotheram.
Overall, the sources agree the sketch comedy bit is structured around a celebrity television premise and broad, light parodies of mainstream UK entertainment shows, rather than focusing on new political policy details.
