A new report from IIT Madras says AI’s impact on jobs should be measured at the level of individual tasks rather than using broad estimates for entire occupations. The study frames AI’s employment effects as dependent on how work is broken down into tasks and how those tasks are structured.
Both outlets summarise the report’s core message that the “bundle” of tasks affected by AI can differ widely. They point to variation across sectors, regulatory environments, and the economic conditions governing access to AI tools. In other words, the study treats job impacts as context-specific instead of uniform across industries or locations.
While the two articles largely align on the central recommendation and overall rationale, their emphasis differs slightly: one foregrounds the measurement approach (“task by task”), while the other adds more detail about the factors shaping how much work is affected and why. Together, they present the report as guidance for more granular evaluation of AI-driven changes in employment.
