A woman in her 50s dies after strong waves and winds swept her into the sea off the Isle of Wight while she is walking her dog, police say. Officers are alerted by the ambulance service at 11.17am, and police join HM Coastguard at the scene. She is pulled from the water but pronounced dead, and her next of kin are informed.

The incident happens along the revetment or coastal stretch between Sandown and Shanklin. Emergency responses include a Coastguard helicopter, rescue teams and an RNLI lifeboat. The County Press reports the dog survives and that a file is prepared for the coroner.

Across outlets, the central facts and location are the same, with coverage framed around the storms affecting the UK. Metro additionally links the death to Storm Austen and Storm Boelo, citing Met Office gust speeds and wider disruption such as power outages and damage, while the other listed reports focus more tightly on the fatal dog-walking incident.
