Japan’s anime industry reaches a record $28.2 billion in worldwide spending in 2025, according to figures presented at TIFFCOM. Across the sources, the market grows by about 15.8% year-on-year, with overseas revenue remaining a majority share and domestic spending also rising strongly.
Deadline, Variety, and Times of India all tie the update to an Association of Japanese Animations (AJA) report presented at TIFFCOM. The outlets agree that overseas revenue is roughly $16 billion (about 57% of the total) while domestic revenue is about $12 billion, reflecting the industry’s dual momentum in Japan and abroad.
Where they differ is mainly in emphasis and the precision of reported figures: Times of India highlights domestic spending growth of 14.1% and round dollar figures, while Deadline and Variety foreground the overall growth rate and the near-57% overseas share. Variety also specifically names Hasegawa Masahiro, editor-in-chief of the AJA report, as presenting the preliminary figures.
