Northern Railway signs a memorandum of understanding with Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) to supply piped natural gas (PNG) to 22 railway establishments in Delhi-NCR. The change is aimed at replacing part of the LPG and diesel currently used for on-site fuel needs, with PNG used initially for boiler operations and other institutional uses.

Across outlets, the reported scale is similar: the agreement covers locations in Delhi, Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar, including facilities such as mechanised laundries and rest-house related units. IGL says initial PNG consumption is estimated at about 3,000 Standard Cubic Metres per Day (SCMD), with expectations of higher demand as infrastructure expands. Business Line and Free Press Journal both describe the swaps in approximate daily quantities for LPG and diesel.

Swarajya frames the development in terms of Northern Railway’s pact with IGL to shift 22 facilities away from LPG and diesel toward PNG. Free Press Journal adds a broader framing around the move as part of the government’s National PNG Drive 3.0 and lists additional establishment categories covered by the MoU.
