Public healthcare services in Singapore experience an IT-related outage lasting about 9.5 hours on Oct 13, disrupting outpatient operations and delaying patient appointments. Reports say roughly 4,000 outpatient appointments are rescheduled, with some patients facing delays of up to two hours.
Both outlets attribute the disruption to a lapse connected to security or system updates. The Straits Times highlights that a missed security update is involved, while Channel NewsAsia frames it as a preventable lapse by the service provider. Channel NewsAsia also says a senior Ministry of Health spokesperson apologises and characterises the outage as something that “should not have happened,” adding the government accountability framing around the incident.
