The Federal Government says it is rolling out a virtual teaching programme, “Inspire Live”, to connect pupils in underserved schools with qualified teachers via live, interactive online lessons. The initiative is aimed at addressing teacher shortages and expanding access to instruction across multiple school levels and subjects.
Nigeria’s education minister, Dr Tunji Alausa, describes Inspire Live as covering the national curriculum and allowing students to join real-time classes when subject teachers are unavailable at their schools. Outlets also note that learners can use recorded lessons to revise or catch up on missed classes. To reduce cost barriers, the government says it has partnered with the Nigerian Communications Commission to provide zero-rated, free data for users of the platform.
The Punch and Nigerian Eye both emphasize the deployment of virtual teachers and the use of free data, though Nigerian Eye provides additional detail on how the programme works in practice and names the Inspire Live platform. The Punch’s second report frames the initiative as part of a broader effort to improve education access in underserved areas.
