A 92-year-old former boarding school teacher is on trial over allegations that he orchestrated the rape of a boy by another pupil while working at Monkton Combe School in Bath, Somerset. Derek Barker denies eight sexual offences against four boys, which he is said to have occurred during the period he taught there in the 1970s and 1980s.

At Bristol Crown Court, prosecutors present evidence from the first complainant as the case proceeds. Both reports frame the matter around the same core allegations and Barker’s denial, but differ mainly in how much context they provide about the court stage: one highlights that the trial includes evidence being heard from the first complainant, while the other presents the same allegation and denial more succinctly.
