Bulgaria amends its Corporate Income Tax Act to change employee benefits and introduce a new excess profits levy. Employers may raise the monthly limit for food vouchers to €200 per employee, while amounts above the previous €102.26 threshold are taxed at a final 7% rate.

The legislation also includes wider corporate tax changes. Measures cover areas such as how depreciation is handled for certain digital and AI-related server and computer equipment (including accelerated depreciation up to 100%), adjustments to thresholds for recognising long-term assets, and a longer period for offsetting tax losses (up to 10 years, with limits tied to annual financial results). There are also clarifications on taxation for corporate assets provided for employees’ personal use.

From 2027, a 33% excess profits tax will apply to specified sectors, including banks, insurance companies, telecommunications operators, exchange points and quick lending organizations. One outlet also notes it would affect certain food retail chains meeting a sales threshold in 2026, with a potential discount if companies direct funds to investments or reserves.
