Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) denies that a power outage at Woodlands Checkpoint caused traffic congestion along the Singapore–Johor causeway and in parts of Johor Bahru, responding to a report alleging the outage was behind the disruption.

Across outlets, ICA says the congestion built up because Singapore-bound traffic increased during planned electrical maintenance works. ICA also points to two vehicle breakdowns on the Malaysian side of the causeway as contributing to vehicles tailing back into Malaysia.

While the reports agree on ICA’s broad explanation, the outlets differ slightly in emphasis. The Straits Times highlights that the planned electrical works were carried out but that lorry clearance still continued. Other outlets foreground ICA’s dispute with the initial claim linking the outage to the congestion.
