A man in Uttar Pradesh allegedly ties his wife to a chair, pours petrol on her and sets her on fire, killing her, before fleeing with their two children. Police say the incident occurred in Jagatpur village in the Kannauj district on Thursday morning, and the woman’s remains were recovered after firefighters brought the blaze under control.

Authorities identify the accused as Sukhbir Singh alias Monu, who is still absconding. Police and local accounts cited by outlets describe a background of marital tension and the husband’s suspicion that his wife was having an extramarital affair. One report adds that he had been monitoring her and that his suspicion intensified after he caught her speaking on the phone with a local youth.

Outlets largely agree on the incident’s core details: the chair-tying and burning method, the location and date, the two children accompanying the accused during his escape, and the involvement of villagers and emergency services. The differences mainly relate to how much background context they provide and which elements they lead with.
