A cab driver in Bengaluru is arrested over the alleged killing of seven members of his wife’s family, including his wife, in connection with a case police say involved a grinding stone and the bodies being dumped in different locations. Sources describe the investigation as continuing to find remaining victims and piece together how the killings unfolded over roughly two days.

Police accounts reported across outlets say the accused first killed his wife and then went on to kill other relatives, with the bodies transported in his car and disposed of around areas including the vicinity of Nandi Hills. Several reports say detectives acted after receiving a missing-person complaint from a relative and tracking the movement of victims’ mobile phones. Some outlets also report efforts to remove evidence at the home, including washing the grinding stone and cleaning bloodstains.

Outlets differ in emphasis on motive and involvement. Times of India focuses on domestic feud and humiliation, and on the role of the accused’s minor daughter being questioned. NDTV highlights the claim that the killings followed “interference” in the accused’s life. The Hindu says police suspect help from another person, while Free Press Journal adds detail that a 10-year-old boy survived and was allegedly taken along during parts of the incident, unaware of the deaths.
