Guyana plans to keep the Guyana–Suriname ferry crossing operating by deploying the barge MB Sandaka while the MV Canawaima goes into dry dock for repairs. The change is scheduled to begin on Saturday, November 7, when the Canawaima is expected to be taken out of service.

Across the coverage, the interim plan is presented as a way to prevent further disruption to the cross-border transport of people and goods on the Corentyne River. Several outlets say the MB Sandaka will run the crossing between Moleson Creek in Guyana and South Drain in Suriname, maintaining continuity during the Canawaima’s absence.

Outlets differ mainly in the amount of background they include. One report adds that the duration of the Canawaima’s time out of service is not yet fixed, linking it to inspections and procurement, and references earlier safety-related interventions involving Suriname’s maritime authorities.
