The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is set to launch a statewide “Catch-Up Teaching Campaign” to address learning gaps and improve learning outcomes. The initiative is presented as the next phase of education reform, shifting attention from earlier efforts focused on enrolment and infrastructure toward learning quality and student performance. Officials say the campaign builds on progress made under the NIPUN Bharat Mission, which strengthened foundational literacy and numeracy, and now targets students who have fallen behind expected learning levels.

As planned, a 15-day revision learning programme will be held for all students in July 2026. This will be followed by special catch-up teaching sessions in schools from August 2026 to January 2027, with daily sessions lasting about 20 to 30 minutes. The approach emphasizes activity-based, participatory teaching aligned with NEP 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023, using teaching-learning materials such as mathematics kits, library resources, and locally available materials.

Teachers are expected to identify gaps through baseline and endline assessments and error analysis, then use methods including peer and cooperative learning. The programme includes regular monitoring by academic resource persons, DIET mentors, and education officials, with involvement from School Management Committees and parents.
