Opposition figures in Jamaica are calling for Dr Andrew Wheatley to step down or be removed from Cabinet after an Integrity Commission (IC) investigation report is tabled in Parliament. The report recommends that Wheatley be charged with illicit enrichment and says his assets are disproportionate to his lawful earnings, amounting to about $164 million, and that he does not provide a satisfactory explanation for the discrepancy. Sources also cite allegations that he knowingly made false statements in statutory declarations and failed to provide required information to the Director of Information and Complaints.

Wheatley rejects the findings, saying investigators disregarded evidence he believes would have changed the outcome, and he has previously referenced real estate earnings he says were not considered.

PNP President Mark Golding renews the call for Wheatley’s immediate removal, saying that to his knowledge no PNP MPs or senators are currently under illicit enrichment investigation by the IC. Golding argues Holness has the power to remove Wheatley without delay and frames the issue as one of governance and public confidence. PNP Patriots also joins the demand, urging Holness to remove Wheatley if he does not resign voluntarily and urging Parliament to treat the IC report as a serious matter.
