On the occasion of Shiv Sena’s 60th Foundation Day in Mumbai, leaders from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Eknath Shinde-led faction exchanged public attacks and counter-claims amid mounting speculation over “Operation Tiger,” an alleged effort to pull elected representatives into Shinde’s camp. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut told reporters that rebel MPs were “sold-out” and said they were focused on money rather than loyalty or commitment. Raut also questioned the political background of some rebel leaders. Separately, Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel said “the trailer” had been shown and that more developments would follow in the coming days, adding that MPs and later MLAs and corporators would join, and that there would ultimately be only one Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. Both factions displayed banners, posters, party flags and the Shiv Sena tiger symbol across Mumbai. UBT banners reportedly included a message targeting “rebel” members, while Shinde’s faction also mounted its own displays along key areas. The heightened activity follows reports that several UBT MPs did not attend a parliamentary party meeting convened by party leadership in New Delhi, with party representatives saying show-cause notices may be issued and memberships could be cancelled. Reports also state that Y-plus security was provided to six missing UBT MPs by Maharashtra Police.
