Muslim communities in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region plan special congregational prayers for rain, citing concerns over water scarcity and a delayed or deficient monsoon. In Thane, a Namaz-e-Istisqa gathering is held at the Rabodi Jumma Masjid. The event is scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2026, beginning at 2:45 pm after the weekly Jumah prayers, and is led by religious scholar Mufti Azimuddin Sahab. It is supported by socio-religious organisations including IQRA Education Welfare Trust and the Sunni Ittehad Committee.
Separately, in Panvel and Navi Mumbai, Muslims organise Namaz-e-Istisqa on Sunday, June 21. In Panvel, worshippers gather at Jama Masjid, Panvel, at 6:30 am and proceed to Eidgah grounds for the prayer. Another congregation is planned at Yashwantrao Chavan Kridangan in Sector 19, Nerul (East) at 8:00 am. Organisers ask participants to come with ablution completed and their own prayer mats. The prayers are presented as a traditional Islamic practice during drought and rainfall shortages, with references to Quranic verses and teachings attributed to Prophet Muhammad encouraging collective supplication for rain and mercy.
