The result replaces Kayinsola Ajayi as world leader, and Card’s 9.93 breaks the previous national junior record of 9.99 set by Nkrumie in 2023.

KINGSTON, Jamaica – World Champion Oblique Seville ran a world leading 9.82 seconds (0.6m/s) to win his first national 100m title at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) national championships at the National Stadium on Friday. After running 9.95 seconds in the semi-finals, Seville dominated the final to finish ahead of 19-year-old Gary Card, who was second in a national under-20 record 9.93 seconds (0.6m/s). Ackeem Blake was third with a season’s best 9.94 seconds. Seville replaced US collegiate champion Kayinsola Ajayi as the world leader, the young Nigerian having ran 9.84 seconds at the recent NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships. Card’s time broke the previous national junior record 9.99 seconds set by Bouwahjgie Nkrumie in 2023 and is joint third best all-time with American Christian Miller. Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo holds the world under-20 record 9.91 seconds set in 2022 with American Maurice Gleaton second with 9.92 seconds set in 2025. -Paul A Reid

Seville was challenged early by teenager Gary Card, but eased away from the University of Technology athlete, who clocked 10.07 seconds to also book his place in the final set to start at 9:15 pm. World Indoor bronze medalist Ackeem Blake ran 10.05 seconds (-0.8m/s) to win the other semi-final ahead of Nishion Ebanks, who ran a personal best 10.18 seconds.
