Environment officials in Cotabato document a rare nursing behavior between an endangered large flying fox mother and her pup during routine wildlife monitoring earlier this month. The observation is recorded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-12 Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Matalam. Monitoring is conducted from June 2 to 4, 2026, as part of the agency’s semestral or twice-yearly wildlife monitoring activities. Officials say the recorded behavior provides a rare account of the reproductive or parenting phase of the large flying fox (Pteropus vampyrus), an endangered species. The report also notes that mating behavior of the same species has previously been documented in the same area, with an earlier observation reported in November 2025. The current documentation is presented as part of the ongoing monitoring and wildlife documentation work carried out by the local DENR office in the region.
