Israeli strikes and gunfire in the Gaza Strip on Saturday killed at least nine people, according to Gaza health officials and medics. The reported deaths include a child and an Al Jazeera journalist. One reported incident involved an Israeli airstrike on an apartment building in Gaza City, where four people were killed, including two women and a child, and several others were wounded. In other areas, Israeli forces reportedly shot and killed a woman in Beit Lahiya, and an airstrike in Khan Younis killed at least one person and wounded eight others. In the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, an Israeli airstrike killed three people, including Ahmed Wishah, a cameraman and journalist for Al Jazeera, the network said. Al Jazeera and the Palestinian Journalist Syndicate condemned the killing. The Israeli military said it struck a militant and, in connection with Wishah’s death, stated he was killed along with militants and did not provide supporting evidence. The Israeli military frequently says its operations target militants, while Hamas and Al Jazeera deny journalists targeted in Gaza have affiliations with armed groups.
