Several parts of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad experience waterlogging soon after the first meaningful southwest monsoon showers, with residents reporting that roads flood within minutes and traffic slows or stops. In Hinjawadi IT Park and nearby areas such as Marunji and Maan, water accumulates after roughly 5–10 minutes of moderate rain, disrupting movement and reviving concerns about recurring monsoon flooding in the IT hub. Similar complaints are raised in other Pune localities including Shivne, Uttamnagar, Kondhave Dhawade, Kopre, Lagad Mala in Dhayari and parts of Kothrud, where residents cite stormwater drainage shortcomings and question civic preparedness.

Residents allege that blocked or diverted natural streams and drains, along with inadequate maintenance, contribute to repeated flooding hotspots. In Kondhave Dhawade, waterlogged roads lead to long vehicle queues, and debris and garbage reportedly clog drainage inlets near a bridge, worsening accumulation. Some residents also report water entering shops and homes, causing damage.

Officials acknowledge the need for broader technical measures. A Deputy Engineer in Pune’s Sewerage Department says a large stormwater drainage project will be required, and a technical survey is planned. Separately, a PMRDA commissioner previously says multiple agencies share responsibility for Hinjawadi infrastructure and that pre-monsoon works in its jurisdiction are completed, while further accountability depends on the affected area.
