India’s consumer regulator, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), imposes ₹1 lakh fines on Storia Foods and English Oven for misuse of “100%” claims on food labels. According to the regulator’s action, the companies are found to have made packaging and promotional statements that are treated as misleading for consumers. The CCPA directs both firms to immediately remove the specific “100%” claims from their product packaging, official websites, and all digital platforms.
The authority also states that any claims related to composition, quality, nutrition, or health benefits must be truthful, verifiable, and non-deceptive. In its reasoning, the CCPA emphasizes that claims presented to consumers should not create an impression that is not supportable by evidence.
Both companies are ordered to withdraw the impugned statements promptly as part of the enforcement action, with the fines applied separately to each entity at ₹1 lakh.
